Anti-Israel teacher barred from working at university in Brussels
Even the Minister of Education interfered with his job. The demissionary Minister of Education Gouke Moes (BBB) felt that Radboud University should report its lecturer Harry Pettit to the police because of his radical tweets about Israel.
Pettit ended up quitting his job. He had won a European research grant, which he got to take with him. Pettit was due to start working at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in August.
Inciting hatred
But that's not going to happen. "VUB stands for freedom of expression, even when it comes to controversial views," the university announces in a statement. "But statements that incite hatred or violence not only cross legal boundaries, but also norms and values that apply within the VUB university community.
Pettit was full of praise for the slain Iranian leader Khamenei. He believes that Khamenei will be remembered for his resistance to "the paedophilic US-Israel cabal". He makes no mention of the bloody crackdown on protests.
VUB considers this to be going too far. The statements are said to be in breach of agreements made between the university and Pettit. Pettit himself has not yet reacted.
