Technical investigations have not yet begun
Cause of fire in data centre not clear yet
The section of the data centre that was affected by the fire is not yet accessible. As a result, experts are unable to carry out a technical investigation into the cause of the fire. North C Data Centres says in a statement that, first, a demolition company must make the area accessible to them.
The company hopes the investigation can begin at the end of June. The results would then be published between mid-July and the end of July. “Unfortunately, the complexity and the safety situation on site do not allow for a faster process,” the company states.
The fire in Almere brought Utrecht University’s IT systems to a standstill. Lectures and exams were cancelled the day after the incident, and some websites – including DUB's – were offline for eight days. UU is currently investigating how a fire in a data centre’s power supply could have had such widespread consequences.
