Isabel Arends was dean of the Faculty of Science for eight years. After two terms on the board, she is moving to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. Arends, who is also a professor of Sustainable Organic Chemistry in Utrecht, will start in her new position on April 1.

It is noteworthy that Arends will be succeeding Hans Brug at the RIVM. Brug will take up his new position as chair of the Executive Board of Utrecht University on January 1.

Isabel Arends started as dean at UU on July 1, 2018. She came from Delft, where she was professor of Biocatalysis and Organic Chemistry and chair of the Biotechnology department.

“Isabel has been of great value to UU in connecting people inside and outside the university,” said Rector Magnificus Wilco Hazeleger in a message on the intranet. "She has paid structural attention to strengthening an open culture and unity within the faculty. She has been committed to leadership development and has further promoted interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative education at UU."

It is not yet known who will succeed Isabel Arends as dean of the Utrecht science faculty.
