The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a code orange warning for Wednesday, applicable to almost the entire country between 6 a.m. and 4 pm. Earlier, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management had already advised people not to travel on Wednesday due to heavy snowfall. Public transport has also been disrupted, with no buses running in Utrecht on Wednesday and NS operating on a reduced winter timetable

This is the third day in a row that Utrecht University has cancelled in-person classes and exams due to the weather. No lectures at all were offered on Monday. UU has since devised alternatives, and some lectures are being offered online. Five educational buildings, including Educatorium, remained closed on Tuesday, and employees were allowed to work from home.

Online classes
The same happened this Wednesday, 7 January. Classes were cancelled, and no exams were held. The five educational buildings remained closed, and the staff worked from home. More lecturers have made preparations to teach their classes online.

UU Rector Wilco Hazeleger says on the university's website that the decision to cancel exams and on-site teaching for the third day in a row was not taken lightly. “We realise that this is a far-reaching measure, for example, for students who have prepared for an exam. (...) And that we are also asking teachers to be flexible and look for online alternatives for their lectures for the third day." Students are requested to check Brightspace for updates on their classes.

Olympos and Parnassos
The snow is also affecting the Olympos Sports Centre. Its website states that the centre is open today for fitness and squash, but many sports classes have been cancelled because not all trainers and coaches can reach Utrecht Science Park. Athletes will receive an email about whether or not their classes will go on. The sports fields are out of use, and the sports café is closed.

Parnassos Cultural Centre will be closed until 4:30 pm. Students will receive an email if their class has been cancelled.

HU
The Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (HU), also located at Utrecht Science Park, announced on Tuesday that its students will have to take their exams on campus this week despite the weather. Those who are unable to attend their exams can request an additional opportunity to take them. Their classes are being held online, and their staff are allowed to work from home with their managers' approval. Staff and students are asked to keep an eye on the Intranet and social media for updates.
