Public Prosecution Service prosecutes VSP founder for assault and discrimination

Last year, the founder of the far-right student party VSP, which had a branch in Utrecht, and another VSP member got involved in an altercation with an international student on the campus of VU University Amsterdam. During the incident, the international student was hit in the face several times. 

The Public Prosecution Service is prosecuting Marlon U. and the VSP member Reinout V. for violence and assault of a discriminatory nature. The charge against Marlon U. is slightly more serious. According to the newspaper Het Parool, U. could face up to seven years in prison and V., six years.

In November 2025, Marlon U. and Reinout V. sang a Nazi song at Bar Boele. The international student confronted them about this. Marlon U. threw beer over him, and the international student did the same to the VSP founder, who knocked him to the ground and punched him in the face.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, as he assaulted the international student (who is of non-Western origin), U. shouted that he would be “deported”. He also insulted a bystander using the n-word. If the Public Prosecution Service can prove that U. and V. intended to discriminate, the court will be able to impose heavier sentences for such offences. The two students are due to appear in court in June.

According to several sources at VU Amsterdam, the Psychology student Marlon U. had been displaying aggressive behaviours for quite some time. In February, students and staff at that university demanded that the Executive Board do more to ensure campus safety.
