UIT: 3,000 students get to know student life in Utrecht

This year's UIT participants were blessed with sunny weather. Annelou (18) is starting her Law degree this year. She’s walking around town with a new friend. “It’s so special that we're already having so much fun. We hit it off straight away.”

Annelou is a little nervous about embarking on this new chapter in life. “But I’m also looking forward to it. It’s just something completely different from high school.” Although some students will be spending the night in a student house in Utrecht, she’ll be sleeping in her own bed in Amersfoort tonight. “My dad said he'll come pick me up. I just have to text him. That’s really nice.”

Before long, we spot the first mentor (also known as "UIT Dad") at Neude. He is proudly looking after a group of "little ones" alongside another mentor. “Every year, the whole city is open to everyone. It’s a lovely atmosphere everywhere, and that’s what I love about it. That’s one of the reasons why this is the third time I've signed up to be an UIT Dad.”

Floris is taking his group to as many student associations as possible. “We asked them what they’d like to do. After all, our children are mainly interested in the parties. They are less interested in things like the outdoor cinema or the Railway Museum.”

He will be taking the "children" to the rowing club Triton, to which he is affiliated. “We’ll have to pop in there, of course. My fellow mentor is a Unitas member, so we’ll have to stop by Unitas, too.”
