Utrecht University confirmed the student’s death this Thursday after talking to his family.
He ran the Utrecht Marathon on Sunday. The event started and ended at Utrecht Science Park. He fell ill in Houten, was resuscitated on the spot and then taken to the hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
The student was a member of the student association Veritas. On its website, Veritas announced five days of mourning, effective immediately. As a result, all activities scheduled for the final days of the association's anniversary week have been cancelled.
