Newspapers Algemeen Dagblad and Telegraaf broke the news earlier this week. According to them, a message has been circulating on Telegram saying that several women studying in Utrecht have received an email demanding a certain amount of money in exchange for not including their names on a new "slut list". The sender is unknown.

The Public Prosecution Service says that it is possible that the students are being blackmailed by email, but does not confirm that it is the same message circulating on Telegram. The email will be considered in the ongoing investigations about "slut lists" in Utrecht. The first such list appeared in March and a second one came out soon after. The Utrecht Police is aware of AD's article but refrains from stating whether or not any victims have reported the blackmailing, citing privacy concerns.

Both bodies call on the women who received the email to report it, underscoring that blackmailing is a criminal offence. "Offenders can be sentenced to up to four years in prison," observes the Public Prosecution Service.
