On Thursday evening, DUB received two anonymous complaints via e-mail about a "slut list" containing names of female members of the student association UVSV, accompanied by comments about their appearance and sexual preferences. The complainants consider the list “incredibly misogynistic” and symptomatic of “a gross fraternity culture”.

Dutch public broadcaster NOS published quotes from the document. The students are being called things like "quite horny" or "nicely vulgar", while others fall into the category of "dragons."

In a statement published on Friday, the USC board calls the presentation “an abhorrent action”, incompatible with the cultural improvement initiated by the student association. USC emphasised that it has been paying a lot of attention to sexual wellbeing and sexual safety within its ranks, by organising workshops, some of them together with UVSV.

USC has since reported the incident to the university and the university of applied sciences. The municipality will also be informed. The members responsible for the list have been suspended indefinitely and will not be allowed to join the association's upcoming ski trip.

The board will come up with a final sanction at a later date. “There should be no doubts that there will be a very severe punishment, given the suffering inflicted on the girls involved,” the USC said.

The question is how the university (UU) and university of applied sciences (HU) will deal with the incident. Last year, USC was discredited because of a sex act in its headquarters. At the time, both education institutions were satisfied with the measures taken by USC.

In a first reaction, UU and HU say they are “unpleasantly surprised” by the situation, which they find "painful and reprehensible”. Directors of the two institutions announced that they will have a thorough discussion with the USC board shortly.

Questions have also been asked in the municipal council.
