Pro-Palestine protest at city centre library
Arrested protesters released the same night
The protesters were expelled from the library's courtyard at the university's request. UU wanted to restore order at the library. Once the buses that took them away arrived at the detention centre in Houten, the protesters were released without further consequences. The police figured that, by doing so, it would be hard for them to resume the demonstration in the city centre of Utrecht.
Only a few dozen protesters were put on the buses. The exact number is still unknown, according to a spokesperson for the Central-Netherlands Police Unit. The activists were not identified or registered upon arrival in Houten. The spokesperson adds that there was no reason for further criminal proceedings.
