Director of Campus & Facilities Eddie Verzendaal has passed away

Memorials for Eddie Verzendaal have been set up in the Administration Building at Utrecht Science Park and in the university building at Boothstraat 6, in the city centre. The Director of Campus & Facilities was a well-known figure within the university community and beloved by many colleagues. He passed away last week after a short illness.

In an in memoriam on the intranet (accessible only to those with a Solis ID, Ed.), Verzendaal is praised by administrators and fellow directors for his dedication to Utrecht University, his warmth, his collegiality, and his “legendary humour.” Verzendaal was very appreciated by his colleagues and peers.

He worked at UU for 22 years. He began his career at the former Centre for Information Technology and Media Use (CIM). In 2007, he became director of this centre, combining this role with that of head of Facility Management for the Faculty of Humanities.

In 2010, he became the head of Facility Management at the university's Facility Service Centre. The FSC had just been established. Later, he became the FSC director. In 2022, he also took on the role of interim director of Real Estate & Campus. Verzendaal directed the merged Campus & Facilities department for just over a year.

Verzendaal's funeral will take place on Wednesday in Arnhem. The university flags in front of the Administration Building and the Utrecht University Hall will fly at half-mast on that day.
