SSH files a police report
Fireworks damage student accommodation
Student housing provider SSH has filed a police report regarding the lift damage. Overnight, from Friday to Saturday, Heavy fireworks were used to destroy the lift door and floor in the Johanna housing complex. The lift is now back in use.
The damage to the letterboxes outside Casa Confetti has been reported to the local police officer. A report may still be filed, according to an SSH spokesperson. Several letterboxes had to be replaced this week.
According to Ray Polman, chair of the Johanna Residents' Association, some people living in the complex were “shocked” by the noise. The campus is usually deserted and quiet at night. "Incidents like this are unpleasant, which is understandable," said the chairman, who emphasised that all housing associations are fully committed to increasing "liveability and liveliness" inside and around the student flats.
Polman was also concerned about the rumours circulating in several residents' apps this week, speculating about possible perpetrators and causes. In his view, SSH has already refuted the rumours.
When asked, SSH declined to state whether they have gained further insight into exactly what happened in the Johanna building. "We have shared all the information we have with the police." A police spokesperson reacted by saying that they are aware of the case, "but no suspects have been arrested."
