According to the court, the man is guilty of three attempted manslaughter crimes. He attacked three times last Autumn on and around Balijelaan in Utrecht-Zuid. Three young women were stabbed in the head, neck or shoulder in a single week. Utrecht residents were relieved when the perpetrator was arrested in early October after a tip-off to the local police officer.

The court informs that it has been proven that the man is guilty of all three crimes. His DNA was found on the jacket of one of the victims. and a pair of scissors, found during a search of his mother's house, contained both his DNA and the DNA of one of his victims. Lastly, the bag of one of the victims was found with a debit card in it and CCTV footage shows that the man tried to withdraw money with that card.

The Public Prosecution Service demanded a nine-year prison sentence with psychiatric treatment as these were alleged murder attempts, but the court found that it couldn't be determined whether the man attacked these women with a premeditated plan, which is why he has only been charged with "manslaughter." The psychological problems the man was struggling with also led to a reduced sentence.
