Man with fake firearm arrested at Utrecht Science Park

Several police units were present around the intersection of Heidelberglaan and Universiteitsweg on Friday afternoon. According to a police spokesperson, the deployment followed the report of a person with a firearm getting out of a car in a car park.
At the end of the afternoon, a man was arrested in a house on Salamancapad, where a fake firearm was found. The man stated that he had attended a fancy dress party with the weapon.
The police spokesperson could not say which car park was involved. It is also unknown how the man in question was dressed. The man arrested in a house on Salamancapad is still in custody.
Six weeks ago, a similar situation occurred around the Koningsberger building at the Utrecht Science Park. Someone called the police to report that they had seen a person with a firearm, which generated a massive police operation that lasted for hours. That incident turned out to be a false alarm as well.
According to the police spokesperson, Friday's report was also taken seriously, but the suspect was found quickly this time.
