Situation will go back to normal on Thursday
No water or coffee in the university buildings yet
Last weekend, Vitens, the water company serving the province of Utrecht, discovered faecal bacteria in a drinking water storage facility. A large part of the city of Utrecht and the surrounding areas was then advised to boil tap water for three minutes before drinking it or brushing one's teeth.
The situation was inconvenient not only for households and student residences in Utrecht, but also for the university. Students and staff were asked to bring their own water and coffee.
The advice still stands this Wednesday, when Utrecht University will open all taps for one minute, following Vitens' guidelines. Repair technicians will also come to the university buildings to clean the coffee machines.
Most of the catering establishments at Utrecht Science Park, including the Gutenberg espresso bar, are now open again as usual.
