A brazen theft – that's how one can describe the man's actions on Tuesday, November 26. He walked to a storage room in the back corridor of the Ruppert building, managed to break the lock open and then unscrewed HP laptops and desktop computers from their monitors. He put the computers in a cardboard box and calmly walked back to the parking lot, where he loaded his trunk with 24,000 euros worth of equipment. All this in 15 minutes.

Last week, RTV Utrecht covered the theft. The police caught the thief on camera and asked the audience to help find him. Though the TV show only mentioned laptops, an employee of the university's IT service desk at Educatorium said desktop computers were stolen too. According to this employee, the "exciting" part of this story is that a colleague went into that storage room at the same time, so the thief must have hidden somewhere.

The police suspect that the man was well prepared for the theft and had accomplices. The locks were replaced after the incident.
