They wanted to show the university's "true colours"
Pro-Palestine protestors take action on UU Open Day
Around twenty protesters stood with Palestinian flags next to the entrance of the Koningsberger Building, where the bachelor's programmes of the Faculty of Geosciences and the Faculty of Science were holding their open day. Police and security were present in the building.
The activists chanted slogans and handed out flyers by the door. Once again, they also called on the Executive Board to sever all ties with Israeli institutions. According to a spokesperson for the demonstrators, they aimed to show the university's “true colours” to prospective students and parents attending the open day.
The pro-Palestine demonstrators believe that the university paints an "inaccurate" picture of itself as a place for open dialogue and critical scholarship, as it is nipping the discussion about Palestine in the bud. They also wanted prospective students to be aware of UU's ties with Israeli institutions. "Above all, we want to show our faces and make it clear to new students that we are still here."
