The pro-Palestine protesters are back
Students occupy library courtyard once again

Those who visit the University Library in the city centre today may feel like they're going back in time: exactly one year ago, to be more exact, when students occupied the courtyard to demand that Utrecht University sever all ties with Israeli institutions. Later that evening, they were removed from the courtyard by the riot police.
Today, the vibe is calm and relaxed. A person from the UU Encampment takes the megaphone to announce that several activities will be held there this afternoon. A doctor from Medical Aid for Palestine has been invited to talk about her experiences, and a Scientist Rebellion representative will talk about the importance of defending the climate. A few tents can be seen in the corner. They are intended to be used by those who need some rest or quiet time. A communal lunch is also announced.
Most of the activists sit quietly on the square, surrounded by Palestinian flags. Most have wrapped Palestinian scarves around their heads, which makes them unrecognisable.

The demands remain the same, says spokesperson Raha, noting that Israel has only become more brutal and violent in the Gaza Strip, while Utrecht University turns a blind eye. In her view, UU's insistence on maintaining its collaborations with Israeli universities is incomprehensible, as is the fact that it has never issued a clear statement against Israel.
Around 1:30 pm., a large group of activists joins the ones already in the courtyard. They were protesting at Dom Square first. Security is stationed at the door of the University Library, but everyone is still allowed to enter.
This is an ongoing story. Updates will follow.
