Orca rower Lisanne van der Lelij was on board the women's eight that left favourites Romania and Great Britain behind. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences and her Master's degree in History of Politics and Society in Utrecht.

Van der Lelij joined the Dutch rowing team last spring. She won bronze in the quadruple sculls at the European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, shortly before the summer.

Eli Brouwer, a life sciences alumnus, and Pieter van Veen, a law graduate, both from Triton, defeated teams like Great Britain and the United States with the men's eight. Brouwer already participated in the Olympic Games in Paris last year with the men's four. Van Veen was a reserve for the Dutch team at the time.
