Students assess their own programmes
Utrecht University and Open University at the top of university guide

In the Keuzegids Universiteiten 2026 (University Selection Guide 2026), the Open University received its highest score in years. Last time, the Limburg-based institution, which specialises in distance learning, was ranked equally with Wageningen University.
The Keuzegids produces a separate ranking for “broad universities”, those that offer courses in virtually every subject area. Utrecht University performs best in this ranking, as it has for years.
Among the comprehensive institutions, only the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam have swapped places. UvA has moved up from last place thanks to a small increase in its score, while VU now comes at the bottom.
Method
The publication is based on the National Student Survey, in which 91,000 university students (that's almost one in four) shared their opinions on the content of their programmes, lecturers, assessment methods, atmosphere, and how well the programme prepares them for their future careers. In addition, Keuzegids considers how many students progress to the second year and how many graduate within 4 years.
