Agreements on the implementation of existing plans
UU and municipality to tackle Utrecht Science Park together
In the agreement, both parties agree on how they will make the residential environment of Utrecht Science Park more vibrant by 2040. Many plans were already included in the USP 2040 environmental vision, but now both parties are committing to their implementation.
Alderman Susanne Schilderman says in a statement: ‘The plans resulting from this collaboration will do a lot for the liveability of the Science Park. There will be more homes, social facilities and catering establishments. In addition, accessibility will be improved with better cycle routes, and more green space will be created to make the area more resilient to hot summers.’
One of the first concrete changes is the redevelopment of Cambridgelaan, where cyclists will soon have even more space. Cars will be “guests” there.
The municipality also wants to get current residents more involved in the implementation of these plans. DUB has previously reported on the results of a survey of residents, which revealed, among other things, a need for a meeting place.
Students would like to see a full-service supermarket in the area. In the agreement, the supermarket is mentioned as a facility, but no concrete plans have been made in that regard.
The agreements have been made with Utrecht University because it owns the land and therefore must give permission for many of the changes. The university also wants to pay more attention to landscaping and preserving biodiversity in the area.
