The Dutch are sitting champions, which is not good for their health. No wonder sitting is often called ‘the new smoking’. UU Vitality, a new programme by Human Resources, will strive to keep employees fit.

‘We are very happy that scientists have approached us to try out a health tool. UU employees fit the profile of people who get little exercise but are open to innovative tools to change this,’ says Cynthia Vilt, Director of UU Vitality.

The UU Vitality newsletter, which will be sent for the first time on Tuesday, includes a call for people to sign up. According to Vilt, the tool is designed in such a way that people will effortlessly take more steps. ‘Walking becomes a piece of cake, and jumping feels like you are on the moon,’ she writes in the newsletter.

Scientists can only work with a limited test group, so UU Vitality advises people to register as fast as they can as of Tuesday. Employees must indicate how much time they work standing up and estimate how many minutes they jump per week. ‘That allows us to make a targeted choice,’ Velt explains.

Employees will test the innovative tool on May 8 during a walking meeting. The participants selected to receive the exclusive exercise gadgets and take part in the experiment will be announced later.

Those interested can register through uuvitality@uu.nl.
