Open call exhibition Who tells my story: stories and art by students about diversity and inclusion

Who tells my story? Who is allowed to speak and who is visible? The new academic platform Work in Progress questions how we can create a more inclusive university in our upcoming exhibition ‘who tells my story’ on the 7th of march during the ‘Onderwijsparade’. In this exhibition we bring diversity and inclusion to its narrative: the different experiences and stories of the students and how they position themselves within the university.

For the exhibition we are looking for stories that takes form in photography, visual art, performance art, poetry and music and contribute to the exhibition. In which way do you feel like you belong or sometimes do not belong at the university? Which conversations and topics are still difficult or uncomfortable to have in class? How do you define an inclusive environment yourself? Work In Progress wishes on that day to spark dialogue on topics we rather avoid, listen to stories we don’t hear enough and challenges people to confront themselves when it comes to being inclusive.

Do you have a story to tell, are you interested in topics surrounding diversity and inclusion or/and are you willing to express your personal experiences in the form of art, send an email to workinprogress@uu.nl before the 16th of February, 2019. Add a short bio and an idea or concept that illustrates your contribution to the message of Work in Progress: how do we create a more inclusive university?

Work in progress offer workshops in which diversity is used as a pedagogical tool and is an offline and online platform in which questions concerning diversity are explored. The exhibition is an initiative by Simone Aumaj, Jasper albinus and Diotima Matthijsen.
