How student associations commemorate their war heros
Documentary Smouldering under the ashes; How student associations commemorate their war heros
When the Germans march into Utrecht in May 1940, an uncertain time also begins for the university. In November, the dismissal of Jewish staff members at universities began. This marked the start of an underground movement of students who rose up against the occupiers. Students Victor Smit and Lou Boshart made a documentary to find out more about these resistance students and to see to what extent their stories are still remembered 80 years after the war. They visit the associations to which these students belonged. How did they keep the fire smouldering under the ashes and to what extent does this fire still burn today?
