Giveaway: Seven vouchers to do groceries at Too Good To Go

TooGoodToknow

Too Good To Go aims to prevent food waste. They help companies generate income from their unsold products. This way, consumers can order food for a good price and help protect the environment. Once you order from them, Too Good To Go has seven tips to make your food last longer and prevent food waste:

Meal prepping
Not everyone has embraced meal prepping, but it is worth it. There are many delicious meal prep recipes online that do not require any cooking talent. Meal prepping saves you food, time and money. Don't forget to put your meal prep containers in the freezer and tag them so you know exactly what is inside. This way, they will last even longer and you will always have a meal at hand.

Flavoured ice cubes
The freezer is your best friend in the fight against food waste. If you have a lot of fruit left over, you can make ice cubes from it and add a fruity flavour to your summer drinks. How do you make it? It’s easy: put a few pieces of ripe fruit in an ice cube tray, then put it in the freezer.

Extend the life of fruit and vegetables
Carrots: Wrap unpeeled, unwashed carrots in a sheet of paper towels and place them in an airtight container in the coldest part of your fridge. Have your carrots gone soft? Soak them in cold water for about ten minutes to make them crispy again. Berries should be placed in a single layer on a paper towel and then in an airtight container. Make sure they’re not stacked and don’t wash them until you’re ready to eat them. If you don’t think you’ll be able to eat them all, freeze them to use later in oatmeal or cake. Another quick tip for tomatoes: did you know that tomatoes ripen less quickly if you store them with the stem facing down?

A new look
Do you have leftover food from the day before? Use it in a new dish. Be creative with leftovers and search online for leftover recipes. Brown bananas? Surprise your housemates with delicious banana bread! Stale bread? Make a pizza base with all your favourite toppings. Bruschettas are also the perfect way to make something tasty from a hard baguette. Make mini frittatas with overripe vegetables and beaten eggs. Pour the mixture into a muffin tin and bake them for 20 minutes at 190°C.

Download the Too Good To Go app
If this app is not yet on your phone, now is the time to download it. With the app, you save delicious food from sushi shops, the bakery around the corner and even hotels from being thrown away, all while saving money on groceries. The items cost a third of the original price.

Organise your fridge and freezer
Fridges can be chaotic when you have many roommates, but an organised fridge can help prevent waste. Sort your vegetables and put the products that are about to expire at the front, so that you can grab them more quickly or cut them into pieces to store them in the freezer. Frozen vegetables can easily be used in stir-fries, curries, pasta dishes, risottos or quiches.

Look, smell, taste
Expiry dates can be confusing. If a package says "use by" a certain date, that's important for your safety: after this date, you should not eat it. The "best before" date indicates when the quality is optimal, but the product can still be used after that, provided you store it properly. So always look, smell and taste before you throw something away.
