Staff not eager to run
Five student parties compete for seats on University Council

The elections for the University Council and the faculty councils will take place on May 12-14. This year, there will be elections for both staff and students.
Two new student parties have registered this year: Rechtvaardige Utrechtse Partij (Rups), recently interviewed by DUB, and the Student Coalition Utrecht, which will be featured in a future DUB article. The latter is also participating in the faculty council elections at Law, Economics & Governance and Social Sciences.
In addition to these two newcomers, veterans Lijst Vuur and Partij voor de Utrechtse Student (PvdUS) are also participating. Vrijmoedige Studentenpartij (VSP), which participated for the first time last year and immediately won two seats on the University Council, will be running again.
A total of 103 candidates are running for the 12 student seats on the council.
Staff
Staff members of Utrecht University can choose between two parties: Lijst Vlam and the Utrecht PhD Party (UPP). However, elections will only be held for the four seats in the subdistrict of arts and sciences, for which five candidates have registered.
The twelve staff seats have been divided into subdistricts to ensure the entire UU community is represented. Humanities and Social Sciences get four seats, while Science and Veterinary Medicine get three seats each, Medicine gets one seat, and support staff get four seats.
In total, only eleven seats will be filled. One seat in the Science/Veterinary Medicine subdistrict will remain vacant next year because not enough candidates have registered.
