Little enthusiasm among staff for University Council
Five student parties compete for seats on University Council

The elections for the University Council and the faculty councils will take place from 12 to 14 May. This year, there will be elections for both staff and students.
It is striking that two new student parties have registered this year. These are the Rechtvaardige Utrechtse Partij (Rups), which DUB recently featured in an article, and the Student Coalition Utrecht, which will be featured in a future article and is also participating in the faculty council elections for Law, Economics, Governance & Organisation (Rebo) and Social Sciences.
In addition to these two newcomers, veterans Lijst Vuur and the Partij voor de Utrechtse Student (PvdUS) are also participating. The Vrijmoedige Studentenpartij (VSP), which participated for the first time last year and immediately won two seats on the U-raad, is also participating again.
A total of 103 candidates have put themselves forward for the 12 student seats on the council.
Staff
Staff members of Utrecht University can choose between two parties: Lijst Vlam and the Utrecht PhD Party (UPP). However, elections will only be held for the four seats in the subdistrict of arts and sciences, for which five candidates have registered.
The twelve staff seats have been divided into subdistricts to ensure good representation from across the organisation. These are alfa/gamma with four seats, beta/veterinary medicine with three seats, medicine with one seat and support staff with four seats.
In total, only eleven seats will be filled. One seat in the beta/veterinary medicine subdistrict will remain vacant next year because too few candidates have registered.
