GroenLinks-PvdA once again the largest party at Utrecht Science Park

People who chose to vote at one of the polling stations at Utrecht Science Park (USP) were significantly more left-wing than the average Dutch voter and the average voter in the municipality of Utrecht. A total of 3,177 people cast their votes at one of the three polling stations on campus on October 29. People could vote at the Administration Building, the University Library on Heidelberglaan, and the Koningsberger Building on Leuvenlaan.

If it had been up to USP voters, the Dutch House of Representatives would have looked very different. As in the previous elections, GroenLinks-PvdA was the largest party at USP, with no less than a third of the votes. The centrist party D66 followed closely behind, with 29 percent of the votes. 

The Party for the Animals was third, with 12 percent of the votes. Volt received 6 percent of the votes and CDA, 5 percent.

Although GroenLinks-PvdA emerged as the winner at USP, the party lost considerable ground compared to the last elections, held two years ago, when GroenLinks and PvdA had joined forces for the first time and managed to win almost 50 percent of USP votes. This time around, D66 was particularly effective in winning the hearts of USP voters: the party received 13 percent of the votes in 2023 and 29 percent this year.

Right-wing parties are unpopular among USP voters. Only 3 percent of USP votes went to the right-wing party VVD and 1 percent to the populist, anti-Islam party PVV. Together, the right-wing parties VVD, JA21, PVV, BBB, and FvD received only 8 percent of the votes cast on campus. Nationwide, these parties hold 68 of the 150 seats (45 percent).
