The man is said to have pulled a 19-year-old woman off her bike on Tuesday, August 13, at around 01:00 am. The woman was cycling from the city centre to Utrecht Science Park (USP).

A car drove towards her as she cycled under the viaduct on the A27 highway, direction Weg tot de Wetenschap. "The driver got out and pulled her off the bike forcefully. The young woman managed to escape and ran away. The driver then drove off in an unknown direction," the police wrote.

According to a spokesperson for the police, a similar incident occurred in Utrecht a few days earlier and the same man is suspected of it. The police prefer not to divulge any further information about the previous incident. They won't say whether the victim at USP was a student.

According to the police, the man mainly targets cyclists who cycle alone at night. According to reports from Telegraaf and NOS, the suspect is a former TBS patient, but the police do not confirm this.

UPDATE:
The police reported on Friday night that the suspect was arrested at Maastricht Central Station and taken to Utrecht for further investigation. The police also reported that the car that the suspect was driving was found in Roermond.
