Fifteen victims filed a report
Two suspects arrested over 'slut lists'
The men had to report to a police station last Wednesday. Both of them were arrested. According to a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service, they are suspected of "insult, defamation and/or slander".
The men could go home after the interrogation, but they remain suspects and under investigation on the part of the Public Prosecution Service.
Victims
The Public Prosecution Service cannot confirm that the two men were the creators of a misogynistic PDF file that was distributed among Utrecht students three weeks ago and ended up all over the Internet. Two USC members were listed on the file as its authors.
About thirty students affiliated with the sorority UVSV had their names, photos and telephone numbers divulged on the list, along with comments about their sexual performance or preferences. According to lawyer Ina Brouwer, who represents several victims and their parents, the incident has caused great psychological suffering and inconvenience for the victims. Some of them received numerous phone calls from anonymous numbers, for example.
Second list
According to the Public Prosecution Service, fifteen reports have been filed so far. Some of them are victims of a second list that was distributed late last week. The second file also includes members of the Utrecht-based student rowing club Triton.
Earlier this week, criminal law expert Joep Lindeman explained to DUB that it would not be easy for the Public Prosecution Service to convict the students involved. He also drew attention to the potential disadvantages of a criminal trial, which could mean a lot of media attention for the victims. that could involve a lot of media attention for victims.
