USKO turns 80: a student choir and orchestra that welcomes everyone
'Making music together is the best thing there is'.

USKO was founded in 1945 to give students an accessible introduction to classical music. Bach expert and conductor Hans Brandts Buys wanted to create an “open, free and accessible ensemble in which making music together would break down all political, religious and social barriers”. Through USKO, Brandt Buys laid the foundation for the Matthäus Passion tradition, a work that was still considered unsuitable for amateurs in 1945. USKO performed annually at UU's anniversary (Dies Natalis) at the time.
On June 24, the USKO will celebrate its 80th anniversary with a concert in TivoliVredenburg's main hall. The programme includes César Franck's rarely performed oratorio Rédemption. DUB is giving away tickets for this concert. Click here to learn how to participate.
