New Accelerator opens at Utrecht Science Park

The name of the building is De Accelerator (The Accelerator, Ed.) and it is located near the P+R car park at Utrecht Science Park. The company Kadans Science Partner is responsible for its design and maintenance. "The idea for the expansion of the laboratories originated because large biotech companies like Genmab and Merus were getting too big for their current accommodation, which is next to the new building. We wanted these companies to keep conducting their research in the field of life sciences here on campus. That's why this new building was conceived and the contract went to Kadans, which already is experienced in the management of similar buildings," said Henk Jan van der Velden, Director of the Utrecht Science Park Foundation.

The first floor of the building stands out due to a public auditorium with a restaurant that can serve as a meeting place for scientists and the companies' employees. There is also a conference room with a capacity of 250 people which can be rented by anyone. The Sustainable City Challenge prizes in which student teams came up with plans to make the city more sustainable, were awarded there, for example.

Kadans also won the tender to construct a new building near the De Wiedgebouw for start-ups and scale-ups in the Life Science sector.
