After winning Varsity
Orca ladies are Utrecht's best sports team

The team, consisting of Trijntje van der Pijl (Medicine), Wia Ruiter (Veterinary Medicine), Lydia Knevel (Earth Life & Climate) and Vera Versteegh (Stem Cells & Developmental Biology) defeated Triton at Varsity. It was the first time that a women's team from Orca won the competition.
The victory earned them a nomination for Team of the Year at the Utrecht Sports Awards, which were held at Beatrix Theatre last Wednesday evening. They won the award, beating Kampong's hockey players and KPI Squash.
The title of Athlete of the Year in Utrecht did not go to a UU student, but the Olympic hockey champion Luna Fokke, who studies Information Science at UU, and the Olympic medallist Jacob van de Kerkhof, a PhD candidate in Law at UU, were among the six nominees.
Kampong striker Duco Telgenkamp was named Athlete of The Year. Telgenkamp scored the winning goal for the Dutch men's hockey team in the shoot-out series of the Olympic final in Paris.
The winners of the sports awards are selected by a jury and online voters. Click here to see the winners of the other categories.
