More than 60 percent of SSH housing association tenants areolder than 23, says a survey of 380 occupants conducted by 14geography students. The survey said three quarters of residentswere pleased or very pleased with their living circumstances, though many would like to move to bigger rooms with their ownkitchen, shower and toilet. The graying is a consequence of waitinglists of three to four years and low numbers of people moving outto live independently. The SSH's Coby de Vries hopes measures toencourage people to move out will be announced after the policydocument on young people's housing is discussed at City Hall inMay.
UU-nite
Saxophonist Candy Dulfer had to drop out with RSI and plenty ofpeople couldn't get a ticket, but those were the only drawbackslast Saturday on UU-nite, celebrating the UU's 365th birthday inthe Jaarbeurs. Performances by and for students were the key to akicking party. Even though tickets sold out the Wednesday before, organizers were still biting their nails on the night because thetickets were free and some people might stay away. But a fullJaarbeurs soon assuaged their fears. Relatively few of theassembled masses got unacceptably drunk. "Everything's going toplan. I actually thought these students would be a bunch of spoiledfrat-boys drinking themselves stupid, but it's not like that", saida security man. The first-aid people also had nothing to do. Manyolder students and staff treated the party like a reunion.
Canteen prices
Many students would disagree but Utrecht university's canteenprices are fairly reasonable, at least compared to other Dutchuniversities. The LSVb student trade union conducted an exhaustivecomparative study into the prices of coffee, sodas, soup andcurrant buns across the nation. The UU scored particularly wellwith its one-guilder soup and 55-cent currant bun. EindhovenUniversity demands far and away the most money. Soup is NLG 2.50and an unpretentious cup of coffee costs 1.50 (as opposed to 65cents here).
