The biomass of Antonio S. Martínez Pascual

Antonio S. Martínez Pascual is a Spanish PhD student at the UU, working on a crossnational European research project.

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Antonio S. Martínez Pascual. I'm from Sevilla, Spain, and have been in Utrecht since February 2014, doing my PhD in the Inorganic chemistry and catalysis department. My project is called SuBiCat. It involves  different universities and companies from Germany, Finland, UK and the Netherlands. The goal is to facilitate the transition from fossil fuels to biomass.

At this moment, I'm studing the reactivity of B-O-4 linkage, which is one of the most abundant linkages inside of Lignin. Lignin is one of the three main polymers of Biomass, together with cellulose and hemicellulose.

Where is this workplace?

The work place is in David de Wied gebouw, in Uithof campus.

What is special about this workplace or about your research?

The research is a really cutting-edge project. We're developing the technology that will help the world transition from fossil fuels to biomass. Working for this research group and in this European project is a great opportunity to be a part of some of the most advanced research in the world in this topic.
